From October 16 to 21, 2024, Prof. Changying Zhao, Dean of the China-UK Low Carbon College (LCC) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, led a delegation to Australia and Singapore to engage with prominent universities and research institutions. The delegation visited the University of New South Wales (UNSW), the University of Sydney, Monash University, Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), National University of Singapore (NUS), and Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
On October 16, the delegation met with UNSW faculty, including Prof. Chun Wang, Head of School, and Prof. Robert Taylor, Associate Head of School, at the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, discussing research collaborations, PhD collaborations, and joint seed funds. The delegation also toured UNSW’s labs.
On October 17, the delegation visited the University of Sydney and held discussions with key academics, including Prof. Deanna D'Alessandro, Director of the Net Zero Institute, and Prof. Chengwang Lei, Prof. Yixiang Gan, and Prof. Luming Shen from the School of Civil Engineering. They reached agreements to strengthen cooperation in research partnership, international conferences, and summer school programs.
On October 18, the group visited Monash University and met with leaders from the Faculty of Science, including Prof. Ulrik Egede, Associate Dean (International), Prof. Richard Reina, Associate Dean (Education), Prof. Heiko Dietrich, Associate Dean (Graduate Education), etc. The discussions focused on expanding existing dual-degree programs and research partnerships. Professor Tony Patti also guided the delegation through Monash’s state-of-the-art green chemistry laboratories.
From October 19 to 21, the delegation visited Singapore. At A*STAR, they met with Dr. Jianwei Xu, Deputy Executive Director (Research) at the Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment, where they explored opportunities for collaboration on research projects, PhD exchanges, and international conferences.
At NUS, Dean Zhao met with Prof. Poh Seng Lee, Executive Director of Energy Studies Institute, to explore collaborations on joint seed funds, student exchange, and research partnerships. The delegation also toured research facilities at NUS.
At NTU, the delegation met with Prof. Jian Chu, Chair, and Prof. Bin Cao, Associate Chair (Research) at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The discussions centered on future collaborations in joint teaching, research, and executive training.
This trip significantly strengthened LCC’s ties with leading Australian and Singaporean institutions in the fields of climate action and sustainable development. It marked notable progress in talent training, scientific research, and executive education, greatly enhancing LCC’s international profile and influence.
